The number of people being diagnosed with mesothelioma is actually increasing.

Cancer Research UK claims the number of mesothelioma cases is expected to rise sharply because of the heavy use of asbestos in the trade industry from the end of the second world war until the mid 1970s.
He added: "The annual number of deaths is expected to continue at current levels for the rest of this decade before declining." Across Wales the 121 people who died from mesothelioma is the equivalent of four in every 100,000 of the population.
The report observes that increasing use of asbestos for commercial purposes is fuelling the incidence of malignant mesothelioma among people.
Professor Gareth Griffiths, the study's co-chief investigator from the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Southampton, commented: "The UK has one of the world's highest incidences of mesothelioma and currently there aren't many ways to treat it.
During 1999-2015, the annual number of malignant mesothelioma deaths increased 4.8% overall, from 2,479 in 1999 to 2,579 in 2015 (p-value for linear time trend <0.001).
Due in part to the long latency period, mesothelioma is rarely diagnosed in persons under age 45 (4% of cases), and about two-thirds of patients are age 65 or older.
The final diagnosis was well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis in the wall of the hydrocele.
