Since its identification as a reliable biomarker of sepsis, PCT has been studied in a wide range of infections.
After making necessary arrangements, the PCT levels of the patients were measured at 0, 24, 48, and 72 h as well as seven and 14 days of the ICU stay.
-- Reduce "cess" duty to 8-10 pct from 20 pct for oil and gas exploration and production
Mark Downing; There is some controversy over whether PCT is a good marker for sepsis.
The concentrations of PCT, CRP, and WBC increased significantly compared to the basal value from T1 to T3 ( P < 0.01).
Results: The levels of PCT and CRP of the infection group were significantly higher than those of the non-infection group and the normal control group before treatment, and the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05).
Objectives: The aim of this prospective study was to compare prognostic utility of procalcitonin (PCT) with existing biomarkers [C-reactive protein (CRP) and total leukocyte count (TLC)] and clinical risk scores (PSI and CURB-65).
Nevertheless, the findings also showed that given methodological limitations and notable heterogeneity, medical decisions should be made on the basis of both clinical data and PCT test results.
