The Study: In this retrospective study, the records of nearly 97,000 Danish children born between 1996 and 2003 were reviewed and 1,321 had
strabismus. The maternal use of tobacco, alcohol, caffeine and tea were evaluated.
The patient may develop a squint (
strabismus), usually a downwardly deviated eye (hypotropia) or a medially deviated eye (esotropia) (Heufelder & Joba 2000, Boulos & Hardy 2004, Meyer 2006, Schotthoefer & Wallace 2007).
Amblyopia usually occurs as a result of misaligned eyes (
strabismus) or when I eye focuses better than the other.
There have been several communications regarding the use of antifibrotics effects in the correction of
strabismus in concentration varying from 0.02% to 0.05% (BROOKS et al., 1996; CRUZ, 1996; OH et al., 1999; MINGUINI et al., 2000; MAHINDRAKAR et al., 2001; MAMEDE et al., 2004).
He has lectured, researched and published extensively on his specialist areas of interest, including original clinical papers related to Children's Eye Diseases,
Strabismus (Squints) and Cataract surgery.
Other causes of headache related to the eye include difficulty converging both eyes simultaneously to focus on reading, any misalignment of the eyes (
strabismus) and any need for glasses (for example, nearsighted (myopic), farsighted (hyperopic), or astigmatism.
In childhood, eye problems such as refractive errors, amblyopia, and
strabismus may result in functional and preventable visual impairment or even blindness.
Strabismus, most commonly known as squint or crossed eye or walled eye is a vision condition where a person cannot align both eyes simultaneously under normal condition.
A meta-analysis of 11 studies published in Acta Ophthalmologica found that the children of mothers who smoked during pregnancy had a 46% higher risk of developing
strabismus.
Most patients present clinically with unilateral decrease in vision,
strabismus, or leukocoria.
Displacement of the eye muscles subsequently cause ocular misalignment, or
strabismus; as a result of which, many people living with TED also endure challenges with double vision, known as diplopia.
