Yottabyte is a software-defined data center (SDDC) company headquartered in Bloomfield Township, Michigan.
The vast amount of data collected in cyberspace recalls a Chinese proverb: "Absolute light and absolute darkness have the same effect-we cannot see anything." (66) At present, cyber sensors collect petabytes of data, and collection of
yottabytes is not far off.
Its activities include domestic wiretapping, international e-mail monitoring, and myriad other forms of cultivating "intelligence" under the aegis of "national security." The whole of this sprawling apparatus-close to one million personnel,
Yottabytes (1) of server space for storing endless streams of domestic and international "intelligence," and the paramilitary technologies required to mobilize these elements against those deemed the enemy--falls within the administrative purview of the executive branch of U.S.
What's a
yottabyte? According to Devin Coldewey of CrunchGear.com: There are a thousand gigabytes in a terabyte, a thousand terabytes in a petabyte, a thousand petabytes in an exabyte, a thousand exabytes in a zettabyte, and a thousand zettabytes in a
yottabyte.
(9) A petabyte is [1000.sup.5] bytes, a exabyte is [1000.sup.6] bytes, and a
yottabyte is [1000.sup.8] bytes.
A
yottabyte is 1,208,925,819,614,629, 174,706,176 bytes, or the capacity to contain 500 quintillion pages of information.
1
yottabyte = 1,000 zettabytes or 250 trillion DVDs
As the volume of data is increasing, the cost of storing it is decreasing; and, unlike physical storage--filing cabinets that take up valuable real estate--there is no penalty for storing digital information and no need to purge old files, pointed out Kelly "KJ" Kuchta, president and CEO of Forensics Consulting Solutions, in a session whimsically called "Data by
Yottabyte circa 2050" (a yottabyte--pronounced yadabite, as in yada, yada--is 1 septillion bytes of data).
A
yottabyte, the largest defined capacity measurement, is equal to 10 to the 24th (a septillion) power and a zettabyte is 10 to the 21st.
