While the OTO Tech is carrying out the more basic services and administrative duties, the audiologist is freed to perform more complex services, such as hearing aid fittings, cochlear implant rehabilitation, balance therapy, and auditory brainstem responses. The auditory brainstem response (ABR) can also be employed to noninvasively measure the electrophysiologic responses of the brainstem auditory pathways (Roizen 1996). A Kaiser Permanente study recommends magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) be the preferred test for evaluating asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss rather than auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing. |
