Tommy, a pupil at Hemlington Hall Primary, was born with no outer ears or canals, yet the inner parts were perfectly formed, so in 2003, to aid his communication, he underwent a bone-anchored hearing aid operation where a metal plate was fixed to his skull and a hearing device clipped to the outside of his head.
She eventually underwent placement of a bone-anchored hearing aid on the right side.
But last year her life was transformed when she was fitted with a bone-anchored hearing aid which was implanted in an operation at Selly Oak Hospital.
