Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a condition characterized by low levels of immunoglobulin (Ig) G and either IgA or IgM in the presence of recurrent infections. In September 2002, during a WNV epidemic in Michigan (2), a 38-year-old woman with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) sought treatment at the University of Michigan Hospital with acute WNV-associated meningitis. These disorders encompass more than 100 diseases, including common variable immunodeficiency, X-linked agammaglobulinemia, and severe combined immunodeficiency. |
