Michael Swan, in his article 'Church caught up in condom conundrum' in The Catholic Register, August, 2006, stated that "There is no official Church position on the use of condoms to prevent transmission of a virus, or on the use of condoms outside marriage. In a multivariate analysis, women's likelihood of acquiring an HPV infection decreased significantly as the frequency of condom use increased. Using a condom during sexual intercourse significantly reduces a woman's risk of being infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and lessens her chance of developing precancerous growths on the cervix, a new study finds. |
