6) Formerly, dilatation and curettage (D&C) was the principal means of investigation for PMB.
A D&C stands for dilatation and curettage - a surgical procedure where the cervix is dilated and the lining of the womb is removed.
The measure of "success" was whether use of the drug resulted in a complete abortion, defined by researchers as the "passing of the products of conception without needing vacuum aspiration or dilatation and curettage during the follow up period.
