Diagnosis and Treatment of Hemophilia A Hemophilia A is caused by missing clotting factor VIII from the blood, which leads to protracted bleeding.
Current preventive treatment consists of genetically engineered factor VIII administered by injection, but one quarter of those born with no factor VIII suffer severe immune reactions that render the treatment inactive.
The addition of a development candidate for patients with clotting factor inhibitors could further build Bayer's leadership position in hemophilia care where it offers the recombinant Factor VIII product, Kogenate(r) (antihemophilic factor [recombinant]).
