Heartburn and acid regurgitation are the two main symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which affects one in five people in the United States weekly and costs the health care industry $10 billion a year.
We report the case of an elderly patient who presented with an upper esophageal stricture, without the typical symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, that progressed to complete esophageal obstruction despite use of proton pump inhibitors and esophageal dilatation.
