This portion of the mtDNA control region is generally referred to as the hypervariable region I (HVR1). The complete genomes of the 25 DENV-1 strains analyzed showed high levels of nucleotide sequence identity in the 3' NCR, except for a small region of 50 nt immediately after the ORF, which is the hypervariable region.
