The women had undergone between one and four MRI screening cycles and were considered to be at high risk if they had hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, a personal history of breast cancer, a biopsy indicating atypia or lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), or a 20 percent or higher lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, as estimated by the Gail model.
5) Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) and atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH) may also present with calcifications that may exhibit high density, clustered punctuate calcification and tending to lack the characteristic features of DCIS such as rod shapes, ductal distribution and branching.
In contrast, lobular carcinoma in situ arises from the terminal duct lobules and is considered a marker of increased risk of breast cancer rather than a precursor of cancer.
