The NWA Council approved and President Dave Knapp mailed the letters to leaders in the Meteorological Satellite community in May 2006 with the following enclosure. Increasingly in recent years, meteorological satellite data has been used to model the spatial and seasonal dynamics of infectious disease transmission and develop affordable early warning systems for malaria (Thomson et al. 9 billion contract to build the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System, the nation's next-generation meteorological satellite system; and an $825 million NASA contract to build the James Webb Space Telescope, the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. |
