He has been most unfortunate in the form of necrotizing fasciitis that seems to have inflicted him. Flesh-eating disease is more properly called necrotizing fasciitis, a rare condition in which bacteria destroy tissues underlying the skin. As the incidence of necrotizing fasciitis continues to increase, those working with wounded patients in tertiary facilities are likely to be seeing more patients with this condition and those working in other facilities with patients with acute care needs may have such cases referred to them before the diagnosis has been made. |
