We also performed routine ENT and otoneurologic examinations and ordered biochemical testing, which included measurements of the total blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein level, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, bleeding and coagulation times, aspartate and alanine transaminase levels, blood lipid concentrations, thyroid function, rheumatoid factor level, and antinuclear antibody level.
Serum samples of subjects from Libby and from a Montana community with no reported asbestos exposure were assayed for a variety of immune parameters, including ANA, immunoglobulin A (IgA), rheumatoid factor (RF), and antibodies to extractable nuclear antigens (ENA).
