It has been well demonstrated that rifampicin accelerates the metabolism of both ethinyloestradiol and progestogens and potential failure of both COC and the progesterone-only pill. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), MDR-TB is a specific form of drug-resistant TB which contains a bacillus resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin, the two most powerful anti-TB drugs. But new strains that have built up immunity to standard antibiotics -- especially isoniazid and rifampicin -- can require drug treatments costing thousands of dollars (euros) and lasting a year to 18 months. |
