More taxonomic studies should sequence other housekeeping genes, such as rpoB, 16S rRNA, ftsZ, groEL, and ribC, to confirm whether these isolates are novel Bartonella spp.
For example, the sensitivity for detection of rifampicin resistance is >98% as almost all resistance is due to mutations in the rpoB gene, whereas sensitivity for detection of isoniazid resistance is lower due to the existence of multiple mechanisms of resistance, some of which are still unknown.
Mutations in the beginning of the rpoB gene can induce resistance to rifamycins in both Helicobacter pylori and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
