The predominant prey were silver hake (Merluccius bilinearis), spoonarm octopus (Bathypolypus bairdii), and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus).
Silver hake are long, slender fish which can be identified by their grey-brown coloring on top fading to silver on its sides and belly.
In 2002, the Gulf of Maine/northern Georges Bank stock of silver hake was fully rebuilt.
