To come up with a faster, more versatile synthesizer, a multi-institute research team from California designed a silicone microchip with a pattern of tunnels, valves, and pumps. Robert Moog, who created the electronic music synthesizer that bears his name and became ubiquitous among experimental composers, as well as rock musicians in the 1960s and 70s, died August 21, in his home in Asheville, North Carolina. Rogue Rogue, a Moog Rogue synthesizer (the economy version of Moog's Prodigy) internally reconfigured so that players had to unlearn any previous keyboard knowledge to make music, was sitting ready for experimentation on the gallery floor. |
