The polyols employed are made up of either polymers of propylene and ethylene oxide or tetrahydrofuran. It is also used to produce other industrial chemicals, including butanediol, tetrahydrofuran, and pyrrolidone, which become ingredients in solvents, paints, deicers, plastics, fuel additives, fabrics, and carpets. In lab tests, Scherer and his coworkers dissolved a carboxylic-acid-containing polymer in the organic solvent tetrahydrofuran. |
