Other big birds in the region last week were an elusive, great white egret on Porthmadog's Glaslyn marshes, a glossy ibis in Foryd Bay, and whooper swans with a scaup on the Inland Sea.

Aircraft could be in danger because of flocks of whooper swans which migrate from Iceland to live near the runways at Glasgow airport during the winter.
