AA2000 has denied claims that the decision is intended to benefit Southern Winds, a national airline in which Eduardo Eurnekian, the majority owner of AA2000, has a 30% stake according to La Nacion.
Martin Eurnekian is the president of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 (AA2000), a major national concession holder that operates 35 airports in Argentina, including EZE.
AA2000, which has been the concession holder since 1998, said that a government strategy to increase domestic and international travel had combined with an overall lift in air traffic in Latin America to deliver both testing times and opportunities.

Earlier this year, AA2000 announced the expansion of the Cordoba International Airport Ingeniero Aeronautico Ambrosio LV Tavarella's (COR) terminal, at a cost of $20 million.
The other member of the management consortium is SEA, the Milanese airports authority, which recently reduced its own holding in AA2000 from 28% to 20%, although it is known that it is not entirely happy with Eurnekian's current policy.
Now comes news that Eurnekian's arch-rival, Juan Navarro of the Exxel Group, has acquired a 63.8% stake in Sheehan Trading, which owns 15% of Corporacion America Sudamericana (CAS), which in turn holds a 35% packet of shares in AA2000. Exxel is now expected to promote its own interests within the group and has a particularly strong position since it already controls both duty free shops and the Edcadassa bonded warehouses operating within the 32 airports which AA2000 manages.
Aeropuertos Argentinas 2000 SA (AA2000), a private Argentinean company that manages most of the country's airports, has indicated that it will be investing USD150m in an expansion and modernisation project for the Buenos Aires city airport, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery.
Sita's self-service technology will also help AA2000 maximise capacity at the new terminal by allowing more passengers to check-in from the same area.
AA2000 has a sharp focus on the customer experience and on modernising, transforming and expanding the terminals it runs.
