Approximately 85% of MG patients have AChR and MuSK antibodies (7); among the remaining patients, anti-LRP4 autoantibodies can be detected in 1.4%-50% of patients, depending on the detection method (8,9).
A, B, C - Control preparations incubated with Tyrode solution (vehicle); A, shows the typical terminal bouton with synaptic vesicles (SV) polarized in front of the synaptic cleft and with mitochondria (M) positioned at the opposite site; B, shows detail of the post-synaptic junctional folds exhibiting the classical electron density of the sarcolemma where acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) are abutted (arrows); C, confirms the integrity of the AChRs labeled with TRITC-conjugated [alpha]-BTX.
(4,9) These thymic abnormalities in people with MG may be responsible for causing the immune attack on the AChRs. (5)
In patients with MG, autoantibodies against AChRs were reported to bind with AChRs on OHCs, inducing a progressive loss of AChRs that decreases OHC electromotility [114].
The C-terminal LG3 domain is critical for the aggregation of AChRs and other molecules at the NMJ, whereas LG1 and LG2 domain of agrin are involved in interacting with a-dystroglycan, which is a multimeric transmembrane protein complex and is thought to be associated with structural stability of muscle cell membrane.[sup][11] The interaction seems to promote the binding of agrin to the surface of muscle cells, and hence increase the potency of agrin in inducing AChRs clustering, which is an important event in NMJ development.[sup][12] The way in which the interaction affects neuromuscular transmission remains unclear.
EMHRN's director of the Women's Rights and Gender Equality Project Mrs Lina Al-Qurah and ACHRS' director Dr Nizam Assaf presented the conference objectives.
Indeed, this particular difference proved to be important, as reported on a paper published shortly after, to help explain the reduced MEPC amplitudes in terms of an activity-dependent reduction in sensitivity as neither a reduction in the number of endplate AChRs nor ion channel conductance was observed in the [delta]S262T-transgenic (56).
"We in the ACHRS believe the Arab Information Ministers wanted to bestow a legal status on the document so as to have the opportunity to punish the satellite channels or radios that violate the principles contained in the document and suspend transmission.
2 shows the inhibition of binding of [sup.125]I-[alpha]-BuTx to AChRs by native and [Eu.sup.3+]-labeled [alpha]-CTx.
SMN protein is localized at NMJs and evidence for the role in NMJ of SMA is provided by the failure of cultured patients' muscle cells to cluster acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) and alterations in AChR clustering, misplacement, accumulation of synaptic vesicles in SMA Type I fetal samples.[sup][4] Although it is currently unclear how low levels of SMN cause these defects at the NMJ, the available evidence indicates that these pathologies might be a consequence of failed synaptic maintenance due to impaired axonogenesis.
AChRs were visualized and quantified in all groups of mice (Figure 3).
Subsequently, growing evidence indicates that, besides neuronal ACh, a broad variety of nonneuronal cell types throughout the body (such as lymphocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, adipocytes, keratinocytes, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells) also produce and release Ach and express choline acetyl transferase (ChAT), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and acetyl-choline receptors (AChRs) [2-9].
