During the summer and fall of 1991, the Ada Information Clearinghouse (AdaIC), operated by IIT Research Institute under contract from the Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO), conducted a survey to develop version 6.0 of the Catalog of Resources in Education and Software Engineering (CREASE).
The AdaIC survey reports that of all schools responding, 361 (63%) teach no Ada courses at all, yet 457 (83%) said that they would consider teaching Ada if a compiler were made available to them at no cost.
