* Joint Efforts with the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys--The section continues to work closely with AFELA. Our Joint Public Policy Task Force meets weekly to review all issues affecting our client population and to help our members with any issue in their practice.

* The Public Policy Task Force, comprised of an equal number of members from the Elder Law Section and AFELA, continued to work closely with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) on a wide range of issues, including updating the penalty divisor for Medicaid qualification, rewriting unpromulgated rules to benefit our clients, agreement to cease and desist from any further unpromulgated rulemaking, and advance notice to the Public Policy Task Force of future rulemaking.
* ELS is working with AFELA and the task force to discuss various problems with the long-term care diversion program and CARES.
The ELS continued its partnership with the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys (AFELA) with the Public Policy Task Force.
In August 2002 and January 2003, we continued to hold joint strategic planning meetings of the executive committees of ELS and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys (AFELA), which together constitute the elder law bar in Florida.
