After a super typhoon struck Guam and the island of Rota with little warning in December 2002, for example, two AFNSEP liaison officers were dispatched to work with the Army at the Pentagon and one was sent to advise FEMA.
Nine AFNSEP liaison officers quickly deployed to Barksdale Air Force Base, La.; FEMA's regional operations center in Lufkin, Texas; Army headquarters in San Antonio; and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to help coordinate the Air Force's support in recovering debris that was spread over an area covering 2,400 square miles in east Texas and Louisiana.
