In June 1954, NEGEHR became AGEHR. A year later, Shurcliff understatedly predicted the future when she said, "While handbell ringing in England is on the wane, we are just beginning to grasp the possibilities here."
Those possibilities include the 9,100 members belonging to 12 regional chapters of AGEHR who are dedicated to promoting handbell music, composition, arrangement and instruction.
Jack Kearns, an official with AGEHR, recalls an event at the Mobile, Ala., AGEHR Directors' Seminar, where Japanese bell ringers played an arrangement composed by Linda McKechnie, a former AGEHR president.
