Mr Josephides, speaking in London at an AITO open day, said 'There are too many operators, too many hoteliers, too many villas and too many airlines chasing a market which is growing all too slowly - and is only growing because it is being force-fed by unsustainably low prices.
While AITO member firms deal directly with the public, travellers will usually spend more with small firms than on a last-minute Thomson cheap deal.

Also watch out for AITO - the Association of Independent Tour Operators - which publishes its 2001 brochure of member companies in January.
