For a variety of factors, including the results of studies such as these, a number of mentoring programs that focus on providing support to LGBT students have been created over the past 10 years at undergraduate, graduate, and young professional levels (e.g., ACPA SCLGBTA, n.d; APAGS, n.d.; Barrett et al., 2002; University of Michigan Rackham Graduate Studies, n.d.; University of California, Los Angeles Student Psychological Services, n.d.).
One other indication of this need is the existence of similar mentoring programs in other disciplines as mentioned previously (ACPA SCLGBTA, n.d.; APAGS, n.d.; Barrett et al., 2002).
Participants recruited from the APAGS Internet discussion group were sent an e-mail announcement.
An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to test for statistically significant differences among the multicultural course participants and APAGS participants on the study's main variables (i.e., racial prejudice and WRI scores).
