What I think APALSA has given me is just a chance in the law school to be around people who are not mostly White.
A second-year South Asian American student named Kavita discusses the division that occurs within her own social network in law school, noting that there are "two different parts to my life in law school." One group of friends are those she made immediately upon arrival in Ann Arbor, who "all happen to be white female." After her first year, she says, she has "been spending more time with people in APALSA and SALSA," students who identify as API and are members of the racial/ethnic-student organizations she herself has joined.
