and Sarmad Ali, Secretary General briefly stated that due to considerable decline in the quantum of advertising in newspapers, non-payment of long pending dues against the Federal and Provincial governments, decrease in the private sector advertising due to economic slowdown and increase in the cost of newspaper imports caused by depreciation of Pak Rupee, the newspaper industry is facing hardship and financial crunch.
According to an APNS
press release, the journalists, photojournalists and cartoonists wishing to take part in the competition should submit for consideration their features, columns, news reports, cartoons and photographs that were published in any member publication between Jan 1, 2017 and Dec 31, 2018.
This order was issued by Justice Arshad Hussain Khan during the first hearing for a case filed by Arif Nizami (Pakistan Today), Zia Shahid (Khabrain), Aijaz-ul-Haq (Express), Jabbar Khattak (Awaami Awaz), Rafique Afghan (Ummat), Anwar Sajdi (Intekhab), Rehmad Ali Razi (Taaqat), Tahir Farooqi (Ittehad), Mumtaz Ahmed Sadiq (Azadi Swat), Mohammad Sadiq Baloch (Balochistan Express), to change the clause of the APNS
The petitioners challenged objectionable sections in the APNS
constitutions with regard to membership and stated that a publication group had teamed up with some members of the APNS
for the past many years to dominate the body, hurting interests of its members.
In his message, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that reposing confidence in the leadership of Hameed Haroon and Syed Sarmad Ali by APNS
members manifested media industry's confidence and trust on their leadership.
