In matters of moral judgments that divide the church, two agreed statements, one from the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) and the other from ARC-USA, have sought to develop a differentiated consensus that moves beyond right teaching.
Following this initial agreed statement in 1993, the discussion between Anglicans and Roman Catholics on ethics and the church was "on hold" until 2008, when the Episcopal Church and the Roman Catholic Church in the United States (through the office of the Episcopal Church's Presiding Bishop and through the Roman Catholic office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) asked ARC-USA to address the question of ecclesiology and moral discernment.
* The particular context of this essay comes from serving as an Episcopal delegate on the Anglican-Roman Catholic Theological Consultation in the United States (ARC-USA) from 2007 through 2014, as it addressed questions of ecclesiology and ethics.
