At the conclusion of the ATWG, each team was asked to develop issues, insights, and implications resulting from the war game play.
We have participated in, but are certainly not experts on, AAN and ATWG, but our sense from speaking with others who have been involved in both is that AAN more closely approximated the model of a wargame that can help shape a service's vision, rather than one used to justify a service's present.
It is also clear that ATWG and the current work being done on the Future Combat System profited mightily from the intellectual work resulting from AAN.
