The data include the DEWR data, other ABS data, AVETMISS
data and data gathered and/or computed at the state or territory level.
A detailed analysis of the AVETMISS 2004 student participation data has identified a range of differences between TAFEs.
While all TAFEs gathered AVETMISS data on student characteristics through the enrolment process, the use of these data varied greatly.
The most common approach reported was use of comparative AVETMISS and centrally produced demographic and labour market data.
AVETMISS data include information on all publicly funded VET delivered in TAFE institutes, other government providers, including agricultural colleges, universities and community education providers, as well as private providers.
A further limitation is linked to data collection: the possible overstatement of the number of VET students in the AVETMISS dataset, as students enrolled in more than one training organisation are counted at each provider.
