He noted that the Alberta Mental Health Board had submitted a summary evaluation upon completion of the five pilot programs that comprised the AYSPS program and had recommended the program continue.
"Our hope is that there will be interest in looking at (AYSPS) continuing and we're just awaiting word on that right now," said Laurie Beverley, vice president with programs and research for AMHB.
AYSPS was started in 2006 in response to alarming statistics indicating that suicide rates among Aboriginal youth were seven times higher than their non-Aboriginal counterparts in the province.
