"The cocktail craze is certainly fuelling much of this growth, and now people are taking inspiration from what they are served at bars and restaurants and making these drinks at home with high-end spirits, pleasing both on- and off- premise retailers," said Charles Forman, vice president and group publisher of Adams Beverage Group, whose Adams Liquor Handbook published the data.

Beer consumption clearly took a hit from the focus on low-carb diets, said Tiziana Mohorovic, spokesperson for Adams Beverage Group. Increased competition from spirits and wine products also took its toll, Mohorovic said.
Wine consumption for 2003 climbed by 5.2% to 258.3m 9-litre cases, according to the 2004 edition of Adams Wine Handbook published by Adams Beverage Group. Per capita consumption of wine reached 2.98 gallons per adult in 2003 - its highest level since 1989.
In other company news, the Adams Beverage Group is now the Beverage Information Group.

beer consumption climbed 2.8 billion 2.25-gallon cases in 2002, according to the just released Adams Beer Handbook 2003 published by Adams Beverage Group. Americans continue to consume more beer than any other adult beverage, according to the publisher.
wine consumption climbed to its highest level in 16 years in 2002, as increasingly sophisticated American tastes drove sales of premium wines to record levels, according to the 2003 edition of Adams Wine Handbook published by Adams Beverage Group. "American consumers have come a long way since the mid-80s, the heyday of wine coolers," said Tiziana Mohorovic, spokesperson for the Adams Beverage Group.
While that figure from Adams Beverage Group Research reflects both on- and off-premise sales growth, it should be important to you.
