The experiment was located in the Sub-Boreal Spruce (SBS) biogeoclimatic zone within the Alex Fraser Research Forest, about 45 km (28 mi) northeast of Williams Lake, BC [52[degrees] 28' N, 121[degrees] 48' W; elevation 900 m (approximately 3,000 ft)].
Three landings included in our study were selected from 37 landings at the Alex Fraser Research Forest where trees have failed to naturally regenerate following timber harvesting between 1973 and 1992.
