They have adopted alternate wetting and drying (AWD), a rice technology introduced by the Philippine Rice Research Institute to provide spacing for irrigation supplies.
When exposed to an exterior environment, the surface of a solid wood panel is subject to alternate wetting and drying. Wood substrate beneath the exposed surface, however, likely dries slower than the wood on the surface.
However, alternate wetting and drying (AWD) technique (after 35 days of flooding) for transplanted rice is more appropriate for the basmati rice varieties in the traditional rice belt.
