The general public associates golf course architecture with dazzling new courses, but 2002 will see the "other side" of the profession gain greater prominence, according to Damian Pascuzzo, president of the
American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).

There was "no native topsoil...mining operations left the land stark and barren with severe topographic changes, isolated wetland pockets, diverse soil profiles and a 30-acre lake," said Architect Jerry Matthews, president of the

According to the
