The objective of this paper is to determine the net present value (NPV) and annualized net present value (ANPV) to the landowner for streambank stabilization projects.
There is a strong positive correlation (.87) between the annualized net present value per project hectare and a variable calculated by dividing the rate of erosion (ha [yr.sup.-1]) by project hectares.
If the landowner is only able to remove the land from the tax base every five years the average net present value will increase to $7,746 from $7,647 and the average annualized net present value will increase to $791 from $781.
If 90 percent of the previous erosion is halted, all of the sites will have an annualized net present value greater than $112 per year with an average of $720 per year, which is $31 less per year than with complete control.
The net present value for this scenario is $9,314 and the annualized net present value is $952.
An an erosion rate of .10 ha (.25 ac) per year the net present value is $3,851 with an annualized net present value of $393.
Net present value, annualized net present value, and breakeven cost share by site.
