The most widely used bounding volumes are Axis-Aligned Bounding Box (AABB) (XiaoRong et al., 2009); spheres (Hubbard, 1996; Pitt-Francis and Featherstone, 1998; Arcila, 2009); Oriented Bounding Box (OBB) (Gottschalk et al., 1996).
In many applications the bounding box is aligned with the axes of the coordinate system, and it is then known as an axis-aligned bounding box (AABB).
The most common form is an axis-aligned bounding box, whose extent in each dimension of the space is bounded by the minimum and maximum coordinates of the object in that dimension.
