Peter Volz, owner of Oxford Gardens, a small farm in Longmont, and vice president of the BCFM board, started selling produce through the markets in 2006.
BCFM has partnered with Colorado State University and the Bridge House, a homeless advocate, to create a work-force program for local farms, along with an initiative that doubles the buying power of low-income families at the markets.
But it's not just about altering BCFM's trajectory.
Herb Granath, senior vp at ABC and chairman of the board at ESPN, received the Avatar Award for outstanding contribution to the communications industry at the 38th annual Conference of the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association (BCFM).
BCFM, which has an international membership of more than 1,200, includes in its membership business and credit managers, chief financial officers and human resource directors in radio, television and cable.
At the close of each market day, a 5 percent fee is paid by sellers to BCFM to help cover operating expenses.
BCFM is also well known as a community event, attracting more than 300,000 people each year.
"Sports revenue ran, jumped and vaulted to solid gold medals during the third quarter at the 2000 Summer Olympics," says Buz Buzogany, president and CEO of BCFM
