Researchers attempted to contact all eligible MSW/MPH alumni through use of the MSW/MPH alumni directory and the BUSSW alumni association files.
The 30 MSW/MPH graduates were matched with MSW-only alumni based on gender, BUSSW major, age at graduation, and year of graduation.
Diversity and flexibility in career options typified the "positive" responses to the question on the value of the MSW/MPH: "It provided me with a greater variety of options," and "My education at the BUSPH enhanced my experience at BUSSW." It appeared that the macro aspect of public health was valuable to clinicians: "Without the credential of the MPH, I would not have been able to transition from clinical to administrative," and "The MPH helped me to understand and acquire the skills for the macro part of my work." Respondents stressed the value of learning prevention skills: "it gave me a wider angle than an individual perspective," and "I really wanted to focus on prevention, and get to the root of problems."
