The 2011 Yearbook contains such articles as the Adarraq family of Moroccan physicians during the 11-13th/17th-18th centuries, Alexandria during its early period, the Bagirmi kingdom from the 16th to the 20th centuries in present-day central Chad, Bengal architecture, Bulghars, carpets, and the Chihil Sutun ceremonial palace in the Safavid Empire's capital city Isfahan.

In all Arabic dialects where it occurs--viz., Eastern Arabian dialects of former South Yemen, Oman, the Emirates, and Bahrain; those of eastern Syria, Khorasan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan; and Bagirmi Arabic in northeast Nigeria, Cameroon, and western Chad--an intrusive -n is added onto the active participle only before an object suffix.

Six out of the fourteen stories in his collection are mythologized historical stories, four of which relate to the golden age of empires: two to the kingdom of Wadai (17th to 19th centuries), one to the founding of the Bagirmi kingdom (16th century) and one to a ruler of the Kanem empire (9th to 13th centuries).

The Muslim states of the plains-Borno, south-west of Lake Chad; Wandala, (4) Borno's restive southern client; Bagirmi to the east; and, in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Fulani caliphate of Sokoto--were perennially hungry for the products of the montagnards.
While he acknowledges that Arabs had already moved into Bagirmi (on the Chad-Cameroon border south of Lake Chad) by the fifteenth century, well before the civil war of 1635, he does not see the formation of a cattle-rearing culture at that time.
In short, he distinguishes four types of features corresponding to four levels of categorization: a) the features common to Upper Egyptian and all Sudanic dialects, b) the features common to Sudanic dialects only, c) the features specific to Western Sudanic dialects, d) the features restricted to Bagirmi Arabic (East Nigeria, Cameroon, West Chad).
