In this 100th anniversary volume, Roland Renson has pulled together contributions from a widely experienced foursome: Thomas Ameye whose doctorate analyzed the Belgian Olympic Committee (COB), Marc Maes, director of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (COIB), Lien Vandermeersch who knows Belgium's sport archives better than anyone else, and Roger Vanmeerbeek, for six years in charge of military sport and Belgian team manager for three Olympic Games.
Renson analyzes the Belgian Olympic Committee from 1906, at a time when the Flemish characterized sport as "an English disease" and the Catholics as another of the perfidies that protestant England was inflicting on everyone, through the founding of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee in 1978 to the present day when it is moving towards its two goals: selection of elite athletes and a deep concern for the poor physical condition of the country's youth.
