10READERS after a dose of 'peacetime sleep' were encouraged to buy a tin of Bourn-vita. Described as 'nature's nerve tonic and Worry Banisher in-chief', the powdered drink was said to stop problems 'looming bigger and bigger till you feel as depressed as a worm near a steam roller.'
It was issued by Bourn-Vita which was made by Cadbury''s as a product to compete in the health drinks market and the beverage was only launched in 1951 and now, I think, discontinued, whereas Ovaltine is over 100 years old now!
They Bourn-Vita beakers are not commercially valuable, a handful of pounds will buy one, but life is not all about money and objects that glitter, it is pure nostalgia and with that, there is nothing wrong.
