The most commonly used measures were the Safe Dates Scale (SDS), the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI) and the Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS).
The estimation of intimate partner violence among adolescents was obtained using the committed violence subscale of the CADRI (Wolfe et al., 2001), adapted to the Spanish population by Fernandez-Fuertes, Fuertes, and Pulido (2006).
These results are consistent with other studies performed in Spain using the same scale with samples of adolescents and university students (Fernandez-Fuertes et al., 2011; Rojas-Solis & Carpintero, 2011), but they are inconsistent with studies that have assessed dating violence with other scales, such as CTS2, which have reported lower prevalence rates (e.g., Corral, 2009; Gamez-Guadix, Straus, & Hershberger, 2011), perhaps because CADRI includes items of less severe violence (e.g., undesired touching and kisses) that could be more frequent in dating relationships.
For the previous analyses, mean scores were previously calculated by averaging item scores of the ADV and IBSA scales, and the CADRI DV Perpetration and Victimization subscales.
Only two validated instruments are currently available (Lopez-Cepero, 2011): the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI) (Wolfe, Scott, Reitzel-Jaffe, Wekerle, Grasley, and Straatman, 2001) and the Dating Violence Questionnaire (DVQ; Cuestionario de Violencia de Novios-CUVINO in Spanish) (Rodriguez-Franco, Lopez-Cepero, Rodriguez-Diaz, Bringas et al., 2010).
