The Denver Post reported last week that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has requested that the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission (CAQCC) examine the possible elimination of the state's vehicle emission inspection program for the Denver metropolitan region in 2006, citing questions regarding the cost-effectiveness of the 10-year-old program.
The Post noted that earlier this year, CAQCC approved a request from CDPHE to eliminate the tests in the cities of Fort Collins, Greeley and Colorado Springs.
The newspaper said CDPHE and CAQCC must obtain approval from the Colorado legislature in order to eliminate the Denver area program.
