The Strategic Framework put forward by the OIE and the other international bodies mirrors the CCWHC's Strategy in suggesting regulatory changes that allow regulators to respond to the root causes of zoonotic diseases.
This lack of integration runs counter to the CCWHC's Strategy and the international Strategic Framework's call to break down the regulatory silos of animal health, human health and wildlife health.
Currently, new wildlife diseases are only identified if a member of the public, a wildlife officer or a researcher comes across a diseased or dead animal and brings that animal to the CCWHC's attention.
